6 – 8 September 2023, on Wiradjuri Country at Parkes NSW.
Our Conference Theme: Storytelling and Told Stories: enhancing children’s early literacy skills through the art of storytelling and told stories.
Stories tell us who we are and where we come from. They help children develop their sense of belonging to their family and their community.
Storytelling with babies and young children also promotes brain development, imagination, and language. Communication in all forms is enhanced.
Be welcomed to Wiradjuri Country, meet our Patron, Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley, enjoy a civic reception, and join the Parkes community as they celebrate 25 years of Paint Parkes REaD in the birthplace of PTTR.
You’ll also hear the latest research about storytelling for young children, learn storytelling knowledge and techniques from Aboriginal Elders and storytellers from other cultures. And you’ll take away some resources that you have created.
Attend a post-conference workshop — Parkes’s Annual Reading Day — and see how the whole town takes on the community responsibility of reading with children from birth, so that they’ll be ready for learning to read and write at school.
And of course… visit The Dish!
